When you start a new gig or move into a new office, you’ll need a couple of key items to survive the work week! Read below for my essentials.
1. Reusable Water Bottle
Staying hydrated during the work day is crucial! Not only is it good for your body it helps you stay alert and keeps you from feeling sluggish. Also, re-filling your water throughout the day forces you to stand up from your desk and take a break at the water-cooler…literally. And if you’re like me and hate seeing plastic go to waste, a reusable water bottle is the way to go. You can also show off your personality by getting a bottle that embodies your spirit!
2. Notebook
Every good intern and student has learned to always be prepared to take notes. With the rise of smartphones some might think a physical notebook isn’t necessary, but it is! When you write on paper you have less distractions and studies have even shown that it leads to a better understanding of the material. A tip that I use when taking notes is use the front of the notebook for notes and the back to write your to-do list, and always flag important notes with stickies.
3. Smartphone Charger
Although you’re not on your phone all day at work, doesn’t mean that group chat with your girlfriends isn’t happening. Keep a smartphone charger at your desk for when your battery starts to drain. You don’t want to be on the way to dinner or working out with no battery. You’ll also be popular with your officemates when they forget their charger.
4. Sweater
Even in sunny Los Angeles, California, I always make sure to keep a sweater at my desk. My office is always cool — apparently, the cold air makes you more alert. Keep a sweater at your desk for when the temperature in the office starts feeling like winter in NYC.
